I had surgery in 1970 to remove a pilonidal cyst when I was 14 years old. I had some kind of emergency during surgery or shortly after. They said my temperature shot up very high, my skin was flushed and I think my pulse rate was high too. I remember the doctor and nurses seemed quite shaken. Post surgery they woke me up all night to check on vitals. At the time they thought I had had a reaction to Atropine and I was told to avoid that drug. I don’t think they knew about MH in 1970. Does this sound like malignant hyperthermia? Is there a connection between atropine and MH? I wonder if there is a way to get my medical records - the surgeon died a long time ago.

Atropine in large doses produces flushing and hyperthermia, but it is transient. There is no relation to MH. Records that are that old may be impossible to obtain. If surgery was done in the hospital they may have them. MH is a possibility, but more likely is an infectious process since often pilonidal cysts have bacteria within the cyst that are released into the blood stream when excised which can cause the signs and symptoms you describe. without testing for MH one cannot be sure if it was related to MH
